Jai Jai ShriGokulesh,
Yes, Shri Buddha is the Avtaar from the 24 Avtaars of ShriPurushottam. Umangbhai had very very rightly said for the Nibandh Illustration. ShriMahaprabhuji also mentioned in Swakrut-Prakash (tippani) that Why ShriBuddha took Incarnation??

Jai Shri Krishna,
i could be wrong but i recall hearing something along the lines that one of the primary reason for Lord Buddha's avatar was to stop 'people', such as the mayavadins from misusing and abusing the veda's, shastras, etc for their own selfish motivations.
would be grateful for further clarifications/corrections
Best Wishes jagdish

Jai Shree Krishna to all
I heard that, In the Kaliyuga the demons were completely subjugated by the deities. Shukracharya the teacher of the demons instigated the demons to perform Yagya so that they could regain power and authority. Fearing this the deities prayed to Lord Vishnu for help.
Lord Vishnu took incarnation as Buddha and dissuaded the demons from performing Yagya as it involves violence the demons stopped performing Yagyas.
Correct me if I am wrong...
Thanks and Jai Shree Krishna
Kavita.

Jai Shri Krishna
It seems that they are all similar in their reasoning...if we link them together. It would be good to have further clarifications from the senior (more experienced) members
misusing/abusing - misleading the ignorant people through misnterprations of the vedas for selfish motives includes commiting cruelty and violence (towards humans and animals -example creating false rituals such as sacrifices..)
- the ultimate motive seems to be the same... jeevs who misuse the principles of the vedas and shastras for such demoniac activities are called demons/asuri/pravaahi jeevs etc.. and if they began performing righteous activities following the instructions of their 'guru', shukracharya then they had a good chance of becoming devotees (if everyone became devotees, then how would kali kaal progress normally ? - which is necessary) or they could cause lots of problems, specially for the daivi jeevs.
- likewise the above could be seen, perhaps as a necessary step in the lila to keep a fine balance between the different types of jeevs as mentioned in the pushti-pravaah-maryaada granth ?.

jsk
when ever there is im balance in prakruti lord is born as per gita
prakruti consist 3 satvik rajsik tamsik
prior to buddha avataar the power of satvik ppl was on the rise and krishana avaatar was
widely worshipped to bring balance by creating bahirmukh shrushti
and to keep ppl away from worshipping shri krishna lord hari him self incarnated as buddha
understanding the wish of god to hide his divine swroop many other religions also
croped up in the world along the same time frame as buddhisun
same is the explaination by shri girdharji in shiddhadwait martand about narsim avaatar where lord narsimha told mahadeva to make his swroop gopya and create maya shastras

Jai Shri Krishna,
Jigerbhai thank you for this further clarification.
- it is also said that because of the rise in buddhism, India's 'might' deminished because powerful kings like Ashoka became buddhist and turned to non-violence... thus giving 'outsiders' such as the moghuls, a chance and an advantage to rule over india (with cruelty). Could one say that this is also part of the bigger picture ?

Jai Jai ShriGokulesh
BUDHAVATAARE TWADHUNA KALAO TADWASHAGAHA SUREHA ||
NAMAMATANI VIPRESHU BHUTVA KURVANTI MOHANAM || 16 ||
means: (with tika) if krishna seva is the best option in this world, then why all man don't do krishnaseva? for it's answer in sharstrarthprakaran of nibandh, by ShriAacharyaji gives aagyna that the word "Budhavatare" is written. In ShriGitaji, two types of jeevs are described. 1. daivi 2. aasuri (daitya). When aasuri (daitya jeevs started living or believing in krishna the shreshthmarg (worship to krishna) then to divert them from shreshta marg Bhagvan took avtar of Budha and the mul of Dharam is ved was ordered to make fun of itself and also god gave aagyna that criticise purana and attract daityas back to the bad marg. Then the Devtas to follow the orders of almighty, took birth in rishikul and started the prachar by creating mayavaad, nyay, sankhya, charvak, etc. the wrong mohak shastras made. In these shastras such wrong things were written that our mind gets diverted from Bhakti ||16||
