RAAS PANCHADHYAYI DISCUSSION - PART-1

This is my humble effort to focus on highest degree of krupa by thakurji done to Shree Gopikas of

VRAJ. I am sure this effort will succeed with kripa of shree acharyacharan.

INTRODUCTION

The aim of every pushti jeev is to do seva of pusti purushottam by TAN, MAN and DHAN. ALso every

pusti bhakta desires to be involved in Raas lila done by Shree pusti purushottam with prem

lakshana bhaktas of vraj. I will sincerely try to focus on RAAS PANCHADYAYI of shrimad bhaagwat

mahapuran. The article is written in several parts. In this part, I will try to discuss the

meaning of "RAAS" and "RAAS PANCHADYAYI".

In Shrimad Bhaagwat mahapuran, we get description of 6 panchadhyayis. BALPANCHADHYAYI in CHATURTH

SKANDH and ADHYATMAPANCHADHYAYI, BHUGOL PANCHADHYAYI in PANCHAM (FIFTH) SKANDH, KARMA

PANCHADHYAYI in SAPTAM (SEVENTH) SKANDH, RAAS PANCHADHYAYI in DASHAM (TENTH) SKANDH, and GYAN

PANCHADHYAYI in EKADASH (ELEVENTH) SKANDH. In all panchadhayis, important topics has been

discussed, but in DASHAM SKANDH, the unique and important lila (RAAS LILA) done by Shree

Nandnandan is described from 21 ADHAYAY to 33 ADHYAYA (FIVE ADHAYAYAS).

MEANING OF "RAAS"

The word "RAAS" is the native word of SANSKRIT. "RAAS" is derived from original word "RAS". 2

meanings can be derived from the word "RAS" i.e. 1. AASWAAD (one to be enjoyed) 2. AASWADHYAMAAN (one in which enjoyment resides). THE ONE WHICH CONSISTS "AASWAAD" as well as "AASWADHYAMAAN" is called as "RAAS". BHAGWAN shree

krushna is himself RAS Swaroop. When he himself does divya lila in which he himself takes form of

"AASWAD" and "AASWADHYAMAAN" is called "RAAS LILA" from "RASANAM SAMUHO RAASAH". The detailed

discussion will be done later.

"RAAS LILA" in PURAN SAHITYA 1. VISHNU PURANA 2. BRAHMA PURANA 3. SKAND PURANA: Shri SHANDILYA RISHI tells to RAJA PARIKSHIT and VRAJNAABH about "RAAS LILA".

THe aim of "RAAS LILA" is to impart happiness to RADHAJI. 4. PADHMA PURANA: In PATAAL KHAND, ADHYAYA 71-83,one finds description of RAAS LILA. 5. BRAHM VAIVARTA PURANA: KHAND 38, one finds description about "RAAS LILA" 6. BRUHAD VAMAN PURANA: Although all lilas done by shree krishna is considered the best but "RAAS

LILA" have a unique place. 7. GARG SAMHITA: In VRUNDAVAN KHAND, one find description of "RAAS LILA"

DIFFERENT BHAVAS OF "RAAS LILA"

ADVAITA VADI'S BHAVANA: RAAS LILA is bhagwan's ATMARAAM lila. One in which bhagwan plays with

himself. Like a child plays with his own mirror image. In same way, BHAGWAN plays with his mirror

image (GOPIKAS of vraj)

RAAS LILA in UPANISHADS: According to "RASO VAI SAH" means SHREE KRISHNA HIMSELF is RAS ROOP.

Getting the RAS is known as PARAMANAND. From this AANAND ROOP BRAHM, jeev and jagat appears. The

feeling of RAAS is not achieved with Physical Senses (INDRIYAS), but it is achieved with BHAVNA.

MAN is also debarred from this. The RAAS LILA is experienced by NITYA ATMA. NITYA LILA can only

be felt by NITYA ATMA (not with physical body). This is the original RAAS LILA in VRINDAVAN which

is only expereinced by ANANYA BHAKTA.
