Pavitra Baras is on Shravan Sood 12(Baar). It was in Savant 1549 Shravan Sood 12th, Shree Damodar Dasji Harsaniji was the first Vaishnava who had Bramasambandh Mantra Dixa.

On this day all Vaishnava presents Pavitra to their Gurudev. If your Gurudev does not live in the same town and if u are Lucky to have any Vallabh Parivaar Balak in your town, then one should go to that Balaka and present Him with Pavitra. And if non of the balak resides in your town then Pavitra is garlanded to (your) Shree Gurudev's Chitraji and then send yathasakti Bhet to your Gurudev's address. After that vaishnava garlands the Guru Bhai-ben with Pavitra and after that the Pavitra is garlanded to all vaishnav parivaar and then in the end that Vaishnava puts puvitra on himself.

By garlanding Vaishnava with pavitra -the bhava is of very old aquantance (Juni-Purani Pahechan) of each others Lila-Swaroop and the Thakorji who resides in that Vaishnava's heart. (Ek bijana swaroopnu anusudhan karay chai ana tena swaroop na radayama birajta Thakorji nay pavitra dharay chay).

After Pavitra and before taking prashad vaishnavas give mishri to each other and then take prashad. The Bhav behind this is that we had been away for Shastra Parivatsaar from thakorji and from each other and today is our re-union day.Alhough, we don't know each others actual lila swaroop, but we acknowledge the knowledge of knowing each other now as vaishnava.

When serving GURUDEV with Pavitra you must insist on giving your gurudev mishri and Guruji will sahdev take Kesar-mishri from you. This is an acknowledged Vahevaar i.e the Pushti-Vahevaar.

Mishri has a special place in Pushti Marag and has a special swaroop and it is also depicted as Zariji's jal.

In actual fact the Rakhi is only presented after Pavitra has been served to thakorji and shree Vallabh Parivar or Guruji. If for some reason one cannot serve Pavitra on the Pavitra Baras then you have an opportunity to serve Pavitra till Janmastmi.

Pavitra is made out of 365 thagas (strings) and depicts all year seva. One has to serve pavitra on that day otherwise his whole years seva is not been accepted in its ful-seva roop but will only be taken as Moxda-seva so all vaishnava will always serve Pavitraji to complete one year's seva cycle.

Now the White Sutar Pavitra is known as Nirgun swaroop and is served to Thakorji with Chandravaliji's Bhava. On this white Sutar Pavitra we put kesar which is of Shree Swaminiji's Bhava. If we put zari on it this is of Vaishnava parikar bhava and rashmi Pavitra is Shree Vallbhadhis Parivaar bhav and all Vaishnava Nirgun bhava.

Pavitra baras no thakorji shringaar: Gulabi Vastra Pichoda and Sonari Kinaar. Mastak par Gulabi-Paag,Sirpech,Kalgi, Shishful, Ckamakni Chandrika,Loom, Chaar Karnaful and chakda.Madhiyano(that is knee-lenght) Shringaar. Thadha Vastra -Haray(Lila-Green),Abhushan-Mooti, Panna and manek.

Jai Shree Krishna Pustidas, Excellent explanation on the importance of Pavitra Baras. In your other post regarding satsang during pavitra Baras, you have mentioned that after the satsang, you make Pavitra. How do you make Pavitra at home? What kind of material you would need to make it?? Please let me know. This year I would like to make pavitra at home for our Guruji. Thanks...JSK.

For making Pavitra you need "Sutar" (the Pure cotton string) and then with your left hand you raise as if you are making a gesture for calling a person, in that position you take one end of Sutar String and wedge between your thumb and fourth finger and then take rest of the string to your elbow and circle it to back to where you had wedged the first end of string. This way you continue to make long loop in a oblong shape and the process of going round from the thumb to elbow and back to thumb will complete one circle ( known as EK DIN THAAGH) . You carry this process for atleast 365 times (Known as EK SAAL GUTCH) . When you finished this, then you will lend up with one Garland in oblong shape and its hight will be 10 to twelve inches(25 to 27 cm). Then at the end of your string you tie a knot circling the 365 string.Tie it till you think it is secured. Then at a distance of approximately two centimeters you tie the knote again. You do this to whole pavitra maal and normally you should tie 108 knots but there is no hard and fast rule that you should have 108 knots, but you never exceed more than 108 knots and less then 12knots.Mostly the Pavitra has 12 knots and this has a bhav of 12 months. Now that Pavitra Dhaag is completed, you should have put little Kesar (shafron) in water and made a kesar solution. Then dip the pavitra into this solution. Dip it for two minutes or more according to your test or colour texture, then take the pavitra out of the solution (do not squeeze) and let pavitra dry. Make sure it is dried in a place where kesar solution does not drip on carpet or wooden floor where its drips and decoloures the floor. HOW TO MAKE THE KESAR SOLUTION: You take luke warm water in a small soup bowl. Put kesar about 8 to 9 strands or less (according to the colour texture required). Once all strands of kesar have melted in water and has a required texture then dip Pavitra in it. Some vaishnava take "tapelu" (medium sauce-pan) and tie sutrav string round it and make the pavitra. But this tapelu should be of DEVI VYANJAN (should be of thakorji's seva tepelu) or you can use "LOKIK" tepelu and before using you should make it pavitra i.e useable as "DEVI VYANJAN" by puting it on cooker or small fire and this way you put "taap" on saucepan and make it useable after the saucepan has cool down, for Devi Kareya. I hope this will help you. If you need the diagram of this process I will send you the diagram (picture) how the pavitra is made. I will send this by email. Please let me know. Pushtidas (Jai Shree Krishna)

jai shri krishna valla vaisnavo's i would like to add a bit more to what pushtidas has said above about pavitras. Pavitra gurudev ne dharaviya baad je vaisnav pote dhare chhe teno bhav a che ke shri thakorji sahit vrajbhakto tem shri guru dev ne potana radai ma pavitra dwara dharan kare che. Aane lai nitya niyam karta pahela goswami balko ane vaisnavo prashadi pavitru dharan kartah.Te uprant paraspar vaisnavone pan pavitra dharva no chaal hato, ane te paan prashad lidha pahela.Aa uprant mishri levdavano pan chaal hato,te ni pachaal a bhav che ke apdi pehechan purani che, parantu apne nathi apnu swaroop jantaa, ke nathi bijaa nu swaroop jantaa. Ane apnu lokik swaroop pragat che, jyare avlokik gupt che. Uprass pavitru dharva thi laabh a che ke koi gupt swaroope birajta chorashi-basebavan te pavitra no angikar kari le. Gurudev ne pavitra dharavi mishri arogava no agrah khas rakhvo. Samanya rite raakhi dharai teni pahela pavitra balko ne dharva joye. Jo koi pan baadhak ave, athva bahar gaam javu pade ke kai biju avran ave, to pavitra jamastmi sudhi ma dhari shakai. And lastly i think that if you make sutar na pavitra then they should be done in upras also. Jsk, Hitesh
