I think its comes from one of the jeevan prasang of Shree Vallabh. At this time, Shree Vallabh didnt have even a single penny to get samagri for Shree Thakorji. At this time, Shree Vallabh pledged the katori of Shree Thakorji with the money lender and brought some samagri for Shree Thakorji. After this Shree Vallabh didnt take prasad of the samagri he offered to Shree Thakorji by pledging the katori. The reason was because it was not from his dravya but with dravya of Shree Thakorji.

Therefore, Shree Vallbah gave it to cow or said to immerse the same in Shree Yamunaji. Shree Vallabh says that we should never use dev dravya for ourself or our benefit. If someone uses it then he is commiting a big sin.

   Yes Snehalji U r right that it comes from the jeevan prasang of Shrimahaprabhuji. we find this prasang at 2 places in our margiya granths. 1st in the Nij-Vaarta Gharu Vaarta In Gharu vaarta the 3rd prasang. And in other place we find in 84 Vaishnavas vaarta in the vaarta prasang of Vasudevdas Chakada.  We all might have read that on that very day it happened that the dravya of shrimahaprabhuji got finished. And there was the time of rajbhog of shrinathji. So shrinathji bava should not be left hungry, so aapshri gave aagyna to the bhitariya that take the katori of shrinathji bava, which is of gold, and keep on debt. And bring the samagri for today only. So what every samagri was brought from that katori, then it was been furnished and offered to shrinathji bavashri.

    Means shrinathji bava took the rajbhog from own dravya and not from the dravya of shrimahaprabhuji or any other vaishnva. Means it was dev-dravya. .................
