I would just like to mention here Shree Nijacharya Mahavakya,"Shastram avagatyam mano-vak-deheih Krushnah sevyah". This roughly translates to that one should understand the scriptures and serve Shree Krushna with one's mind, speech and body.

knowledge of pushtimarg is must to do seva.
it is so because it makes u familiar with all terms and requirements that r ceetainly needed to understand the methods of seva.
it also lets u know about the bhav bhavna's of the particular seva or the the particular day and much more......
