Vaishnav, Jai Shree
Krishna
I was reluctant to put my post on this topic, as I could not back-up my understanding of Adhivaasan with pushtimargia siddhants. However, to clear out any misconception of Anya-ashray, and to keep the thread alive, here is my first cut.
Hope all other vaishnavs will rectify it further.
Definition of Adhivaasan:
Adhivaasan is the process in which “ashur-aavesh” (evil entity or power) is removed from the object, so as to make that object “Nirdosh” and then it can be offered to Thakorji.
Now, let’s see, why we do Adhivaasan?
Vaishnavs perform seva with different bhavs, one of them is “Bal Seva Bhav”. In this bhav seva, vaishnav performs seva, considering Shriji swarup as balak. Like other bhav sevas, here also vaishnav constantly worries about Shri Thakorji sukh.
Typically, Bal bhave seva imitate the strong affection of mother (Shri Yashodaji) and son (Shri Krishna bal swarup). All mothers think that, whatever I offer to my son should help him to grow stronger, and become more intellectual. But her offering should never create adverse effect and should not harm her son in any sense or situation.
Let’s consider the Adhivaasan of Hindola or Palna. Both are made from Wood and/or Iron. Process of making Hindola or Palna, encompass many sukshma-dosh (microscopic faults). For example, tree from which the wood is cut could be home for many insects, birds, etc. Similarly, melting of Iron involves killing of many insects, small creatures, etc. All those dosh are present in the object (Hindola/Palna) in the form of ashuri-aavesh.
As stated earlier, no mother wants to offer something to her son, which will harm him in any sense. So to remove such ashuri-aavesh, adhivaasan is performed and made that object nirdosh. Main driving point here is the “strong affection of mother”.
We have old saying, “When there is too much snahe (love) involved, you even fear for the slightest blow of air”.
