When did Dharmaraj Yudhishtra Lie, why and what was the lie ?

Dharmaraj Yudhistara lied during the Yudhh of Mahabharata, saying Ashwathama dead, but actual death was of the elephant (hathi) named Ashwathama . That time Guru Dronacharyaji was the senapati of the sena of kauravs, and pandavs wanted to misguide Dronacharyaji, and loose his energy by shock of death of his son Ashwathama.

Now to the interesting part. What was the effect of this Lie on Yudhishtra ? What were the follw through impacts of this lie ?

Jai Shri Krishna,
I may be wrong but just a wild guess.
I have heard that when Yudhistra left the bhutal He was first invited to Hell to get sight of the place He just had to pass by to see how sinners suffer.
So even to just pass thru Hell is suffering that was the only effect on Yudhistra.
Also by doing Yagnas (Ashwamed Yagna etc) of course with help of Lord Krishna his sins were already wiped out when He was still living.

guru dronacharyaji got shocked to hear the death of ashwthhama and hearing this, he lost his temperament to concentrate in the yudhdhh, and the work for pandavas became easy.

Shreekantbhai, waiting for ur answer on this. Is it so that Yudhishtira intended misled gurudronacharyaji by saying ashwathama i had killed and in real was the gaja the hathi, who yudhishtira killed, and when dronacharya came to know he cursed yushidhtira to hell?
