Jai Shri Krishna
Sri Vitthalesharayaji was the son of Sri Damodaraji . He had to struggle a lot in the early days of his life . His brothers severely objected his sole rights of performing seva of Sri Nathaji . Due to this he was banned from entering the Nija Mandira . Even the emperor , Shah Jahan was helpless .
Once , all the other Balak’s were offerring Tipara ( a type of shringara to be worn on sri mastaka ) , to Sri Nathaji , which He refused to except as he saw Sri Vitthalesharayaji weeping . Sri Nathaji called all the Balaks and ordered them that Sri Vitthalesharayaji shall rightfully perform my seva for sixty days in a year . Following the order and wish of Sri Nathaji , the Balaks apologized to Sri Vitthalesharayaji and reinvited him to perform the seva of Sri Nathaji . Sri Vitthalesharayaji’s heart was overfilled with infinite joy by this gesture of the merciful Sri Nathaji .
Sri Nathaji happily wore the Tipara from the hands of Sri Vitthalesharayaji .Since then he was called as Sri Vitthalesharayaji (Tiparawale – one who offerred Tipara to Sri Nathaji).
After this incidence, emporor Shah Jahan gifted vast pieces of land and honoured him with the title of " Goswami Tilkayata ".
Thus Sri Vitthalesharayaji became the first Tilkayata of the Vallabha Sampradaya.
He was bleesed with four sons viz, Sri Giridharaji (V.S. 1689), Sri Govindaji (V.S. 1697), Sri Balakrishnaji (V.S.1700) and Sri Vallabhaji (V.S. 1703 ; also known as Kaka Vallabhaji ).

Dear Vasantbhai,
The explanation which you have given is excelent but First Tilkayat was Shri Damodarji son of Shri Shri Girdharji. After Shri Girdharji he became the Acharya of Pushtimarg and he got the seva of Shrinathji and Shri Navneetpriyaji so that he was called as Tikayat and this parampara is started.
Your answer and my answer is different so that we both will find what is the truth.

Dear Jatin and Chirag
Jai Shri Krishna,
According to your answers then Shri Girdharji should be the First Tilkayat but it does not go that way. Please do some research and request the reason from phatshala also how they consider their opinion of Shri Damodarji. That is the reason why I gave you my answer with explanation to make it easy.
If you happen to go to Nathduara you can find out yourself who is correct and let me know.
I will even post the life history of Shri Damodargi and it never mentions if anybody gave him the title of Tilkayat.

Jai Shri Krishna,
Here is the life history in short of Shree Damodarji.
Sri Damodaraji - 1
Shravana Shukla 15 ; V.S. 1632 – Kartika Shukla 10 ; V.S. 1694
Sri Damodaraji was the successor to Sri Giridharaji as his elder brother, Sri Muralidharaji expired at an early age .
He was blessed with three sons viz , Sri Vitthalesarayaji , Sri Giridhariji and Sri Muralidharaji .
Sri Damodaraji was an exponent in the vedas and philosophy . He had done deep studies in all different shastras, besides contemplation of Srimad Vallabhacharya’s philosophy .
Along with this Sri Damodaraji celebrated many Utsavas and manorathas of Sri Nathaji.
Sri Damodaraji was gifted with a very impressive personality which influenced the contempary rulers as well as the devotees to a great extent .
