QUIT ADDICTION OR EMBRACE DEATH
For those who take birth, death is inevitable. If there is any bitter
truth in the life, it is death and fear of death is felt universally by all
human beings. As disease can be the cause of death, constant efforts should be
made to avoid it by implementing the appropriate treatment. Persistent striving
should be made to eliminate any conditions which may cause sudden death.
Solutions should be sought with determination to prevent untimely death at an
early age. Support of the different fields of knowledge should be taken, such as
dharm, science, astrology, religion, etc.
It is a matter of great surprise that people walk knowingly on the path of
addiction and willingly embrace death. For many eras, man has formed habit of
partaking of addicting substances like alcohol, palm tree juice, cocaine,
heroin, hash, marjuana, tobacco etc. finding some excuses or the other, viz.,
ignorance, submitting to social pressure etc... and ultimately embrace their own
death and at the same time, cause destruction of their family, society, country
and entire world.
Generally, people become addicted before they realize the extent of the danger.
Children, teenagers and young adults become addicted to bidi, pan masala, charas,
hashish, alcohol etc. and consequently the flower of their youth withers and a
multitude of physical and mental illnesses develops, such as weakness, cough,
asthama, T.B., Cancer, constipation, indigestion, sleeplessness, joint pains,
AIDS, mental instability and mental weakness.
Addiction at an early age leads to loss of physical and mental capacity,
debilitating the person rendering him incapable of stability or discipline. Such
incompetence, indiscipline, irresponsibility and extravagant spending
precipitate failure in business, service, career and other types of employment.
In married life, alcohol and other addictions cause divorce, disputes and
inability to adjust. In such a conflict-ridden environment, children are
prevented from progressing normally and often fall in their father's foot steps,
falling victim themselves to addiction.
With the increase of addiction, begging, poverty, disease, indiscipline,
irresponsibility, incompetence, illiteracy, self-interest, wasteful spending,
crimes, terrorism etc. are all on the rise. These factors retard the progress of
the country and under such conditions, providing security and protection to the
public has become a critical problem.
Throughout history, Governments, Institutions and dedicated individuals, all
over the world, have implemented countless programmes, to prohibit addiction
but, if information would be presented to school going children by institutions
devoted to protecting the traditional values of the society, conveying the
frightening consequences of addiction, there could be substantial progress in
this direction.
Of all the types of addictions, alcohol and tobacco consumption are most
prevalent and therefore should be understood in depth.
