 Why mala have 108 beads????

Jay shri krishna to all vaishnavas,

I have two questions : 1)Why do mala have 108 beads ??? Why doesnot have more or less number of beads than 108??????

2)Why is it written 108 before name of any goswami balaks ?? Eg: P.P.G. 108 Shri Dwarkeshlalji Mahoday

Jai Shri Krishna Both the answers are perhaps related, the number 108 is considered very spiritual or religious. Also there were main 108 gopis, also there are 108 upanisads, Shri Krishna also had 16108 wives. Like of Om is considered a sacred sound, I guess 108 is a sacred number. Atleast I dont have any scriptural quotations for it, Jai Shri Krishna Manish
