Shri Gokulesho Jayati
Yes, while one is praying, should keep his eyes closed, because it is human tendency, that our eyes gets fluctuated here and there while working, so for concentrating, eyes should be closed. Also when eyes are closed, we can concentrate on shri thakurji's leela.

Jai Shri Krishna,
Dear Jatinbhai and Gopalbhai,
When one is in temple or at home or in nij mandir or haveli or where God recites in vaishnav house when we go in there we are in front of God so we must keep eyes open and do darshans. Sing His glories which pleases God a lot.
During that time one is said to be praying he may even be doing seva, singar, kirtan in front of God but he is still praying.
Now once you are out of Temple or your nij mandir or after seva is over you come outside and sit down and try relax and close your eyes then you do chintan, manan or we call it MEDITATE then of course you should keep your eyes closed so you can concentrate on God, His Darshans and His Lilas. The reason behind this is exactly what you said no distractions should happen.
Please all vaishans rememeber one thing God has given us eyes and our gurucharans have explained us at many points the best way to use them is to employ them in God darshans (and doing His prayers in front of Him while seeing HIM.)
At the same time you can continue to MEDITATE in your free time is good practise.

Jai Shri Krishna
In the temple , we should pray with open eyes and try to read and study swarup and while leaving the temple we should sit in the temple for awhile and recaptulate the swarup and that image in our eyes we should take back to home for meditation thinking that whatever darshan we had in temple/haveli is that that of swarup we have in our house.
Similarly during katha sravan , satsang /lila sravan , we should keep in mind that our swarup at home is doing this lila. This helps us to meditate at home and in seva.
