252 Vaishnav Varta 172 - A Brahmin from South BhavnagarNow the sentiment of the account of a Brahmin, resident of South Bhavnagar and sevak of Shri Gusainji, is being described.
Bhav Prakash (Revealing the Sentiment): He is a sattvik devotee. In the divine play, his name is “Krishnanuchari.” He manifested from the “monkeys” of Shri Gokul. Therefore, his form is full of divine sentiment.
In the South there is a village called Bhavnagar. There a Brahmin was born. When he became eight years old, his father placed him under a learned pandit for study. There he studied the mantras of the Vedas and learned correct pronunciation, but he did not understand their meaning.
Afterward, his parents passed away. Then he took the ashes of his parents and came to Soronji. There he immersed the ashes in Shri Gangaji. After that he remained there, because there was no one at home. Thus, by reciting the Vedas, he maintained himself on the banks of Shri Gangaji.
Prasang 1 – The Brahmin Receives Refuge from Shri Gusainji
Once, Shri Gusainji came to Soronji. At that time, a Brahmin there was reciting the Shrimad Bhagavatam. Hearing his recitation, Shri Gusainji felt compassion. He thought, “This Brahmin recites well, but he has no true understanding. Therefore, it would be good to teach him the true path of his own dharma.” While Shri Gusainji was contemplating this within His mind, knowledge arose in that Brahmin. The darshan of Shri Gusainji appeared to him as directly more beautiful than millions of Cupids.
At the very sight of Him, the Brahmin thought within himself, “If I take refuge in Him, it will be greatly beneficial.” At that very moment, he came, offered dandvat pranam to Shri Gusainji, folded both hands, and prayed, “Maharajadhiraj! Please bestow Your grace and make me Your sevak.” Then Shri Gusainji mercifully bestowed the Name upon him. Afterward, he had him perform the offering ceremony. Then the intellect of that Brahmin became purified.
Thereafter, daily he began listening from the lotus mouth of Shri Gusainji to the recitation and discourse of Shrimad Bhagavatam. Later, he came to Gopalpur and became a fine Vaishnav and recipient of grace.
Prasang 2 – Shri Thakurji Delights in the Brahmin’s Vedic Recitation
After that, one day Shri Thakurji Himself said to Shri Gusainji, “This Brahmin recites very well. Tell this Brahmin that he should recite the Vedas before Our own temple.” Then Shri Gusainji replied to Shri Thakurji, “Very well.” Afterward, Shri Gusainji told the Brahmin, “You should daily recite before the inner temple.” Then the Brahmin said to Shri Gusainji, “Maharaj! I shall certainly do so.”
Thus, every day at the time of adornment, that Brahmin would sit and continue reciting until Rajbhog. Shri Thakurji remained pleased with that Vaishnav, and Shri Govardhannathji also remained pleased. Whenever there was any mistake in the recitation, Shri Govardhannathji Himself would point it out. Such grace Shri Govardhannathji bestowed.
That divine-souled Brahmin was such a greatly blessed devotee and recipient of the supreme grace of Shri Gusainji. Therefore, there is no limit to his sacred account — how far can one continue describing it?
Bhav Prakash (Revealing the Sentiment): In this account it is shown that those upon whom Shri Gusainji Himself bestows His thoughtful grace attain Vraj Mandal, and all four aims of life are fulfilled.
So Gopaldas Ji has sung — " जेने श्रीविद्वलनाथ विचारे रे, तेने प्रगट पदारथ चारे रे । उपरांत भजन फल आपे रे, ब्रजमंडल स्थिर करी स्थापे रे ॥” “Those upon whom Shri Vitthalnath bestowed His grace, To them the four manifest attainments were granted. Thereafter He bestowed the fruit of devotion, And firmly established them in Vraj Mandal.”
Through the grace of Shri Gusainji, this Vaishnav attained knowledge of his true dharma and also attained residence in Vraj. Thereafter, Shri Govardhannathji Himself began granting him direct divine experiences. This alone should be understood as the true fruit of devotion. Therefore, a Vaishnav should maintain firm refuge in Shri Acharyaji Mahaprabhu and Shri Gusainji, and should keep faith in their words. Then all attainments shall be fulfilled.
